The Archives can be accessed at the bottom of this page. Headwaters Chapter Muskies, Inc. Meeting February 1, 2012 The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Bill Jacobs. Minutes: Motion to approve 1st Jeff Miller 2nd Bob Jacobs Treasurer’s Report: Income $2,697.50 Expenses $4,067.85 Balance $14,362.56 Motion to Approve 1st Jeff Miller 2nd Louie Dreger Correspondence: President Bill Jacobs received an e-mail from the Eagle River Chain of Lakes Association looking for help to cover the expense of replacing buoys - cost $3,500. Discussion of applying for a grant from the Hugh Becker fund to cover cost. Motion by John Schmidt to apply for the grant. 2nd by Jeff Miller The grant will be written and applied for this year, with funding if awarded for next year. Indian Lake Lodge in Canada sent an e-mail in regards to one person staying free for a week with a booking - not all-inclusive. Conditions Apply; Will check into what the conditions are and how many need to book in order for one to stay free. Regional Directors Report: No Report. International 1099’s are completed. No end of year statements at this time. Outside CPA completes their audits. A meeting will be taking place in Kentucky. Alliance Report: Jim and Carol Heffner will pick up the boat raffle tickets at the Milwaukee Musky Show. April 4 the DNR biologists will speak. Chapter meeting at 6:00 Biologists at 7:00 Membership Report: Jim Chamberlin stated we were at 378 and have 7 to be submitted Total 385 Discussion as to number of members on Jan. 1 as insurance based on this number. Banquet Report: Receipt books are available for those who need them for collecting from donors. New this year - President’s Award - Four people were selected for this award: Jim Chamberlin, Paul Hansen, Elmer Jensen, Jeff Miller Also being presented is an award for husband and wife - Mr. and Mrs. Musky - Jim and Carol Heffner Docks & Landings Report: Froze in Spring Classic Report: Applications will be mailed out as bulk mailing; need minimum of 200 to be sent out at once for a savings of $57 on each mailing of 200. Fall Classic Report: Nothing at this time. Sports Show Report: We will have a booth at the Sports Show in Wausau being held at the Patriot Center on March 2 - 4th. We will be able to sell items - look for the Headwaters Mugs and boat raffle tickets. If the raffle permit is received in time, we will sell raffle tickets for the carved musky. April 14 will be the date of the Sport Show at the Eagle River Inn in Eagle River. Matt Hegge is coordinating the event. Newsletter Report: The Eagle River Roasters will be printing the next newsletter yet and possibly one more after that. New printer in St. Germain to handle newsletter Fish Report: No report. Muskies Inc. Magazine Report: No report. Youth Committee Report: Not many responses to the letters sent out for donations. Scholarship Committee Report: Three applicants for the scholarship. The recipient will be named next month. Two are from Oneida County and one from Ashland County. Last year’s recipient is one of the applicants for this year’s scholarship. The Scholarship will be renamed to the Headwaters Chapter Memorial Scholarship in memory of: Art Anderson, Stephen J. Bassler, Tom Botton, Mike Jajeaski, Larry Johnson, Bill Marsh, Chet Meyers, and Duke Verkuilen. Chapter Challenges: Kleeba June 6th - 8th Gil Hamm Canada August 29 - 31 Lake of the Woods Member Outings: May 26th at Oneida Village; July 7th at Wild Eagle (Boondockers)July 7th will be the monthly meeting and outing; August 15th at 12 Pines; Fall Outing in Canada - August 28th - Sept. 1st at Lake of the Woods; October 27th Enduro at Eagle River Inn Old Business: Resolution for sucker positional fishing passed as written; another resolution regarding trolling state wide is being discussed; Discussion on the issue of trolling ensued. If limited to 1 line per person it would be OK; however, 3lines each are too much. At the Madison Show on Feb. 25th will have a chance to give input and explain stance on the trolling issue to other musky clubs from the state. Fred Brogle brought up a concern of the fishery on Kentuck Lake. Fred spoke with Steve Gilbert in regards to the fish kill on the lake. The musky bite was good through September, but after October 1st not many were seen. There was a bluegill kill in early October and a second bluegill kill - thousands were killed. The kill came after the water started to clear from the algae bloom. The biologists found no harmful bacteria in them or no VHS. They do not have a clear answer as to what happened.
